Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a condition in which the blood pressure in the blood vessels that supply the lungs is too high.
The drug macitentan relaxes the muscle cells in the walls of the blood vessels leading to the lungs, allowing the blood vessels to dilate (widen). This reduces the pressure in the blood vessels and allows blood to flow more easily through them. This improves lung function and your ability to do physical activity.
